As you enter through the “Bali” style pavilion entrance of No.14 Karma Samui your senses are immediately enveloped by the sweet fragrance from the white frangipani trees and gardenia.

Then as you approach the terrace and pool one word escapes from your mouth “Wow!” The view says it all and you know this is going to be the beginning of a long love affair with Samui No.14 is a luxury private villa located within a 5 star beachfront resort on Koh Samui’s north east coast. This spacious three bedroom villa is snuggled into a tree-lined hillside facing due south with commanding spectacular views of the tropical blue sea and sweeping coastline.

As your eyes scan the dining/living pavilion and out along the coastline you could be forgiven for thinking you could be in Capri, Sardinia, Majorca or even L.A.

The Koh Samui coastline on this part of the island does indeed conjure up such thoughts.

As you settle into the white four-seater Italian sofa ( yes, it’s the same one you saw in the Bulgari hotel in Milan ) and soak-up the view, you realize you may never want to leave.

Imagine waking up to a view “to die for”. As you open your eyes on the vaulted cathedral ceiling above you and lift your head from your pillow your eyes pass the end of the king size bed and your peripheral vision glimpses the Italian silk curtains. Then you gaze across the large wooden balcony through a vignette of trees to the view of the turquoise sea and Koh Matlang, a small island north of Chaweng beach.

You are in the Master bedroom. The en-suite bathroom is in white marble and has an extra outside shower with the same stunning views, even from the bath tub.

On the next level below the Master bedroom, is the special Guest bedroom. This large double room with its king size Italian bed has a chaise and desk which looks out onto a small garden. The Guest bedroom has the same spectacular view as the Master bedroom above. This room with its thick luxurious Italian silk curtains feels secluded and is the prefect Guest bedroom with en-suite bathroom and shower leading out into a garden.

The third bedroom, next to the dining/living pavilion, faces the morning sun and looks across the terrace to the pool, the day bed and the blue sea beyond. This room with its elegant white leather day bed, can be a reading room during the day, or transformed into a queen size bed for sleeping. This room has heavy-duty blackout curtains (in white), useful should you wish to escape the sun and rest during the day. This bedroom also has a large en-suite bathroom with shower and a private out-door shower in a small walled garden.

The villa feels private although it is situated within a resort and affords the best of both worlds. There is full maid and room service, exactly what you would expect from a 5 star hotel. Upon leaving the villa you are only a short walk from the beach where you can swim safely and if you wish, enjoy the special cuisine from the spectacular white domed international on-site restaurant.

CHOOSING THE VILLA OF YOUR DREAMS | The first steps...

I've lost count of the number of holiday visits to Koh Samui to see the construction of our villa. Do we regret it? Not one bit. Not only was it enjoyable to see our villa at different stages of construction but it was also a great learning experience. Would we want to go it alone next time? Put it this way, I don't believe our experience would lead us to want to become property developers! There is too much you would need to know and you would also need deep pockets if things didn’t turn out as you would have hoped. In our opinion, it is better to go with an experienced and reliable developer with a good track record every time. Both Mary and I feel fortunate to have chosen a great site and position for our villa, one of the big advantages in getting in early and buying off-plan. But you do need to do your homework before hand and have faith that your developer will deliver as promised. Below is a rough guide to choosing the villa of your dreams based on our own experience of buying a villa in Thailand. Most of it will seem like common sense, but sometimes we all need to be reminded of what to consider before one gets carried away, so to speak, especially as buying the place of your dreams can be an emotional roller-coaster for some...  story continue...

For those of you who love design

For those of you who love design you will not be disappointed when you arrive at Karma Samui Villa 14, otherwise, known as the "White Villa". Every room has been carefully thought out and we have tried to balance the amount of furniture we put in with the size of the room. Our task was made easier once we had decided on the colour scheme, which was to be white.

Mary liked the idea of a white villa and we took the bold step to make everything white in the lounge/dining pavilion. We regret none of it, as it looks fantastic and works because the villa is very light given its great position and stunning views. Afterwards, we thought we would have to wear sunglasses because of the glare, but surprisingly, we did not...  story continue...

We started to look for a villa, in Kata, on the South side of Phuket in 1993, as we really liked the ambiance at this end of the island. We spent many wonderful holidays in Mon Tri's Boathouse and scouted the area for our place in the sun. At this time, there were very few developments in Kata and Phuket generally and to find one we liked and within our price range was difficult.

We visited the site in Koh Samui and sat under the coconut trees in the centre of our marked out site. The view was stunning and it all felt right. This was the beginning of a four year journey to completion of KARMA SAMUI VILLA 14.

Within two days, we had decided to purchase Plot No14 in Royal Samui Beach, as we had always wanted a villa rather than a condominium...

KOH SAMUI AIRPORT

BANGKOK AIR fly regular daily services to and from Bangkok and from other Asian destinations including direct flights from Hong Kong to Koh Samui. KOH SAMUI AIRPORT is only 5 minutes drive to KARMA SAMUI VILLA 14.

Without a doubt, the location of Karma Samui Villa 14 is one of the best on Koh Samui. Why? Because it is close to everything you will need including shops and restaurants in Chaweng, which are only five minutes drive away and the all important drive to the airport, again only five minutes away...   story continue...

This might come as a surprise to most first time visitors to Koh Samui, but there are some shops you would not expect to find on such a small island. One of them is TESCO LOTUS a giant supermarket chain selling everything, clothes, electrical goods, food, drinks, stationery, you name it and yes, their market are the Thai’s and the increasing number of ex-pats who are retired or living and working on the island.
Another shop that carries more western products such as Waitrose biscuits, teas etc., is TOPS SUPERMARKET half way along Chaweng main street. Parking is easy here, just pick-up a ticket at the gate to Central Market and get it stamped in the supermarket, then hand it in as you drive out and you won’t have to pay for parking. Still in Chaweng Main Street and round the corner from Tops is BOOTS the chemist. Here you can buy all your toiletries and sun creams as well as the usual pharmaceutical items. THE KOH SAMUI LOCATION DAIRIES

The perfect LOCATION is only a dream away... My newfound friend was called Wolfgang and he owned a dive shop in Fisherman’s Village. When we arrived he picked some keys up from his shop and showed me upstairs to a small but tidy room and then left me to it. Exhausted from the journey and a bit jet-lagged I decided on an early night. Without unpacking, I set the alarm on my mobile for 7:30am and settled into the short single bed.

I woke suddenly to hear my mobile ringing. I groped for it in the dark and just managed to grab it before it vibrated itself off the bedside table. The voice on the other end came straight to the point. Had I found the location? I switched on the table lamp and looked at my watch. It was 2am. Through the fog of sleep I reminded the voice, my so called Producer, that it was 2am here, GMT+7 hours ahead of London and no, how could I have as I’ve only just arrived. At that I rang off, lay on my back and stared at the ceiling, thinking... and this is just the first day !   story continue...
