For those of you who love design you will not be disappointed when you arrive at Karma Samui Villa 14, otherwise, known as the ‘White Villa.’ Every room has been carefully thought out and we have tried to balance the amount of furniture we put in with the size of the room. Our task was made easier once we had decided on the colour scheme, which was to be white.
Mary liked the idea of a white villa and we took the bold step to make everything white in the lounge/dining pavilion. We regret none of it, as it looks fantastic and works because the villa is very light given its great position and stunning views. Afterwards, we thought we would have to wear sunglasses because of the glare, but surprisingly, we did not.
White and nothing but white. The white kitchen blends in well with the rest of the furniture. This was intentional as it opens out into the dining/living area. We designed our own kitchen and decided on Binova, an Italian design, with Siemens and Miele electrical appliances.
The white theme is continued outside with the white sun loungers by the pool. These sun loungers are made of aircraft aluminium, which makes them very light, but because they are covered in mesh they are very stable in a high wind. We have four sun loungers on the terraced area outside.
The living area is all white too and very comfortable with a large white metal frame coffee table in the centre that can hold acres of coffee table books. The large Italian sofa is facing a 40 inch B&O LCD television but still has a great view of the sea as do other seats in this part of the villa.
Early on, we had decided not to go with the developer’s kitchen and instead design our own, as we wanted to include different appliances such as a built-in coffee machine by Miele and, of course, we wanted it to be white. We ordered an Italian kitchen (Binova) from Decor Mart in Bangkok and were very pleased with the professionalism we received during the design phase and the installation.
We made a plan to move in during the summer of the coming year, if our villa was ready by then, and, to this end, we engaged Asian Tigers to move our furniture from Hong Kong to Koh Samui. Friends, who had gone to live in Samui the previous year recommended them as they had had a smooth move without any breakages.
Fortunately, our move went without a hitch too, much to our relief. The Thai team was fantastic managing to assemble our new furniture they had never seen before straight out of the packing case, as I watched sitting on an upturned cardboard box.
As seen from the kitchen in B&W. If you are into cooking you will not be bored with this view. This is the view you will have when you are dicing the onions on the island work top. The dining area has an indoor outdoor feel about it when all the sliding doors are open.
The view never goes away even when you step inside the dining | living pavilion. This side of the dining area has a Luxaflex electric blind which covers the sliding doors and windows. It also reflects the heat. This is very useful first thing in the morning as the sun rises on this side of the villa and can get very hot. Leave it down first thing in the morning and put it back up when the sun rises overhead.
Asian Tigers working together as a true team. Nothing phased them. If they couldn’t work out how to put the furniture together they consulted the instruction leaflet. Here they can be seen assembling our king size bed in the master bedroom. This bed has a storage area underneath it which gives us more space to store bed sheets and linen.
Our day room | third bedroom with, you guessed it, a view of the sea. The white leather lounger doubles as a queen-size bed. This is a great room if you want to read or you may want to take a midday nap. If you do, just draw the blackout curtains and put your feet up. The four corners of this lounger can all be angled as seen in the photograph.
The guest suite is situated beneath the master bedroom and the king size bed with its B&B mattress is dressed in a burgundy bed cover. Also, in the room is a single wooden designed bed base with a Simmons mattress. This bed can also be put into the guest bedroom upstairs if two singles are required.
